The GE Refrigerator Ice Maker is the self-contained unit inside your refrigerator that automatically produces and harvests ice cubes. It works by filling a mold with water, freezing it, then using a heating element and rotating ejector arm to release the ice into the storage bin below.

The GE Refrigerator Ice Maker can stop working due to a failed heating element, worn ejector arm, burned-out motor, or a faulty thermostat that prevents the unit from sensing when ice is ready to harvest. Mineral buildup from hard water, freezing temperatures that are too low, or a cracked mold can also cause the assembly to fail over time.
