The GE Refrigerator Defrost Control manages the automatic defrost cycle that prevents ice from building up on the evaporator coils inside your refrigerator. It works by signaling the defrost heater to turn on at set intervals, melting any frost that has accumulated, then shutting the heater off so normal cooling can resume. Without this part working correctly, frost builds unchecked and the refrigerator loses its ability to cool efficiently.
The GE Refrigerator Defrost Control can fail due to age, electrical faults, or exposure to moisture over time. When the control stops working, it may run the defrost cycle too long, not long enough, or skip it entirely, leading to a thick buildup of ice on the evaporator coils or a refrigerator that runs constantly trying to compensate.
